Inspired a bit by the “Just rolled in to the shop” website, detailing all manner of horrible automotive maintenance and care. Here is a few of the things we have seen around Fast lately. Sort of a “blog of shame”.

Don’t end up here!!!

Another Blown up KO3 VW turbo. Smoked like a train and according to the customer made a “weird buzzing noise”

Bent 4.6 Rod. Though shalt not break 400 foot pounds!!! Part of the new variable compression ratio engine line from ford.

Death of a turbo Sentra. Car was a 400HP car, then hit the wall and burned. YAY CARBEQUE!!!

Why should i change my transmission fluid again?

Boss block oil leak. Ford decided that the wrong head gasket was no big deal as long as you got silicone!

CHUMP CAR!!! where the dead car in your driveway goes to die all the way.

“Seems like it runs out of fuel” No joke, Really?

“Naw, the wires are brand new, they should be fine”

“Yeah, just needs a good dyno tune.” Correct, after a good solid tune up.

Worst carbon tracking I’ve ever seen. Amazingly the car still ran pretty good. We are totally spoiled by todays cars.

Idle air bypass port on a some inter cooler piping. “Hey guys, anyone see my 1/2″ socket? I seem to be missing it.”

That really is a 1/2″ socket welded to the plumbing as a nipple for a hose.

Wheels bearing race, hard to see in the pic, but a ton of pitting, made a horrible noise.

You all remember the dead Hemi headgasket right?

“idle fluctuates, voltage gauge swings back and forth and it cranks slow sometimes”  Amazing.

Another dying fuel tank deposits its guts into the fuel filter. At least the stuff didn’t make it to the carb.

Car would run fine at idle and stay nice and cool. The heater worked good and everthing seemed to be fine, on the freeway though, heater would quit, and water temp would sky rocket as the impeller started to slip on the shaft. It took a leap of faith to pull the pump for this symptom as on this application its about a 7 hour job.

Not sure how astro turff got in the fuel tank. Maybe i don’t want to know.

Another one up in a cloud of smoke. Fortunately, the work crews got it out and svaed the car.

Supposed to bolt on, just doesn’t.

“hey you, dummy, keep your fingers out of the moving parts” Occupational hazard

Wow, just wow.

Miss on number 5.

Exploded diff.

Dead injector control module for a 6.0 powerstroke. Luckily, caught it early enough that nothing was destroyed. A little work with the soldering iron and we are back to black smoke.

When the fuel filter doesn’t catch all the goo.

Another dead set of spider gears. This one a Titan axle.

Another set of new plug wires. Haha

The astro turf that made it passed the needle and seat.

Another of the pump that won’t pump.

So, moral of the story,

1) new does not mean good

2) “Bolt on” does not mean anything

3) Maintenance is not optional, you can either do it in an orderly fashion and have a great running car or you can wait until the car makes you do it and spend a lot more.
